Illinois FFA recognizes four outstanding FFA members
in each of the five FFA Districts in Illinois. Each is honored as
the District Star Award for outstanding accomplishments in FFA and
agricultural education. The District Star Awards – including the
Star Farmer, Star in Agribusiness, Star in Agricultural Placement
and Star in Agriscience recognize FFA members who demonstrate
outstanding agricultural skills and competencies through record
keeping, leadership, and scholastic achievement.
SAEs allow students to learn by doing by either owning and operating
an agricultural business, working or serving an internship at an
agriculture-based business or conducting an agriculture-based
scientific experiment and reporting results.
Reed Naughton was selected as the District 2 Winner by a committee
of agriculture industry representatives and teachers knowledgeable
in this work-based area.
Naughton is the son of Dan and Amy Naughton of rural Atlanta, IL.
Receiving this honor now makes Naughton eligible to compete in the
State FFA Awards Selection process in Mt. Zion, IL on Saturday,
March 22, 2025. Naughton was previously chosen as the Chapter and
Section awardee in this area. Naughton’s experiences at Timbercrest
Land & Cattle, Naughton Auction Service and Naughton Angus have been
the major focus of his records.
Naughton has been involved in the following other agriculture
education and FFA activities: State Winner in Ag Services
Proficiency (2024), Section 9 FFA Treasurer, Chapter Vice President,
McLean County Farm Bureau Service Award Winner, FFA Plot Manager,
Pork Chop Grill Master, CNC Master Technician, Ag Day leader, and
many FFA career development events including ag sales, livestock
judging, extemporaneous public speaking, and parliamentary
procedure. Meg Baer and Bryce Hoffman are the agriculture teachers
and FFA Advisors at Olympia Middle School and high school.

Naughton will receive plaques for his
accomplishments. These plaques are made possible by gifts by
individuals, businesses, corporations and organizations through the
Illinois Foundation FFA.
