Lincoln Park District Aquatic Center celebrates summer with first Family Fun Day

[June 15, 2026]

Intermittent rain and a late start did not keep stalwart swimmers away from the Lincoln Park District Aquatic Center for the first Family Fun Day of the summer on Saturday, June 13. A Space Jam theme with decorations, photo opportunities, and games kept kids and families entertained.

Free admission for Space Jam Family Fun Day was sponsored by Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC). Participants were also invited to bring a nonperishable item for the Lincoln-Logan Food Pantry. Regular pool admission and pool passes are also accepted on Family Fun Days.

Event organizer and head lifeguard Mattea McFadden explained that at the end of each summer all the lifeguards brainstorm new theme ideas and then vote on their favorites. The top three become the Family Fun Day themes for the next summer. She also noted a change in the day: “We did Family Fun Day on Saturday this year [rather than Friday] so more families can come.”

McFadden said, “We are blessed this year that ROSC sponsored free admission for June. We are hoping to find sponsors for the others. We have lots of fun games planned for the next one!” McFadden shares head lifeguard duties at the Lincoln Park District with Addy Barner, Emma Menzel, and Lily Block.

The next Family Fun Day will be an “Under the Sea” theme on July 11 and the final Family Fun Day will be an Avengers theme on August 8 with admission of a donation of a non-perishable item to a local charity. Each Family Fun Day runs from noon to 5 p.m. with kids games at 2 p.m.

Lincoln Park District Aquatic Center public swim is daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. Lap Swim and Toddler Time (children under 8 in the toddler pool) are from 10:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. daily. Evening public swims are Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and evening lap swim is Monday through Thursday by reservation only from 5:45- 6:30 p.m. The Aquatic Center offers swim lessons for children, pool rentals for parties, and water fitness classes for adults throughout the season.
