A sunny, hot, and breezy Sunday
provided the perfect backdrop for a charity car show benefiting the
Humane Society of Logan County (HSLC). Rides & Rescues was held in
the Don Shay parking lot, across the street from Scully Park in
Lincoln.

Organized by Brenda Short and Stacy
Sparks, Rides & Rescues featured 56 beautiful vehicles of various
styles, colors, and vintages, each with its own unique story. The
farthest-traveling participant came from Benson, Illinois.

The day began with participants registering their vehicles for
display. Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed music by Cameron
Kurtz, pies from Rhu Barb Pie Patch, and food from vendors Daily
Wrap and Brew 66. Later in the afternoon, Silas Tockey performed on
the Trifecta Patio.

The first 50 entrants received swag bags, and a 50/50 raffle winner
was announced at the conclusion of the event. Door prize drawings
were held every 20 to 30 minutes. Prize donations were generously
provided by the Aldridge Family, BJD Bat Flags/Jeff Holtke, Graue
Chevrolet, Jeff and Brenda Short, Jim Xamis, and NAPA Auto Parts.

Voting for the Fan Favorite Award
resulted in the top three vehicles receiving trophies, and Mayor
Tracy Welch also selected a personal favorite.

Those interested in donating to or
volunteering with the Humane Society of Logan County can visit the
shelter at 1801 N. Lincoln Parkway in Lincoln. Shelter hours are
Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9
a.m. to noon. For more information, call 217-737-4042.
The shelter is always seeking loving homes for its cats and dogs, as
well as volunteers to assist with animal care and general
operations. Interested individuals can begin the process by
completing an application available through the shelter.
As a nonprofit organization, HSLC relies on donations and volunteers
to continue its mission. Contributions help cover veterinary care,
spay and neuter services, food, medications, and daily operating
expenses.

As the engines quieted and the
trophies were awarded, the true winners of the day were the animals
who will benefit from the community's generosity. The success of
events like Rides & Rescues demonstrates what a caring community can
accomplish together. If you would like to help HSLC continue its
mission, consider making a donation, volunteering your time, or
adopting a pet in need. Your support directly impacts the lives of
local animals and helps ensure they receive the care and compassion
they deserve and that every animal has the opportunity to find a
safe and loving home. To donate, visit the HSLC
website.
