On Friday evening the Balloons Over
66 weekend officially kicked off with a ribbon cut honoring all the
pilots who have made the trip to Lincoln this year to entertain
thousands of guests on the campus of Open Arms Church.
The balloon event is just a portion of the whole weekend, with many
activities going on in downtown Lincoln as well as at Postville
Courthouse, the Oasis Senior Center, The Lincoln park District and
the Lincoln Public Library.

was held in the center of the large open field at Open Arms, with
Balloon chairman Austin Hopp joined by Lincoln Mayor Tracy Welch,
Lincoln Aldermen Steve Parrott and Robin McClellan, Logan County
Board Member Kevin Knauer, and members of the Balloons Over 66
Committee.

Because the ribbon cut got off
to a later start than expected, the cutting event moved along
quickly with Hopp offering comments to the crowd. He said that
he was thankful for all the pilots who were on hand, then moved
on to express appreciation for the community in its support and
thanks to all those who had come from near and far to see the
balloons and enjoy other events.
With that, Hopp with assistance
from fellow committee member Kathy Williams snipped the ribbon on
the 2026 Balloons Over 66 Weekend.
Following the ribbon cut, pilots and crews headed to their
respective vehicles in anticipation of the rest of the evening’s
activities.
