Humane Society of Logan County Holiday Cookie Box and Bake Sale warms hearts on a cold day

[December 15, 2025]

On Saturday, December 13th, a bake sale was held to benefit the Humane Society of Logan County (HSLC). The sale was at the Masonic Lodge at 2022 N Kickapoo Street in Lincoln. It was set to start at 8:00 a.m., but started thirty minutes earlier due to the weather.

Even though the snow was coming down, the volunteers still showed up. The weather also did not keep the community from showing up, as there were a good number of cars in the parking lot. All of the proceeds made from the sale were given directly back to the HSLC.

The items for sale ranged from baked goods to decorations. The baked goods included pies, cakes, tons of cookies, and more. Nancy Shaub, chair of the event, and fellow volunteer Jill Gabriel, shared that over 80 bakers had contributed to the mountain of cookies that were being sold at one of the tables. In total, there were around 7,000 cookies baked. These 80 bakers were for the cookies alone, none of the other desserts.

Other baked goods were at various tables around the lodge. There was a pecan pie, as well as several other various fruit pies. There were baking kits with everything needed for someone to make their own baked goods. There was a beautiful white cake. There were various other types of baked goods, but too many to recount here.

In addition to the baked goods was an area where one could buy decorative items. There were Christmas/animal themed tea towels. There was also a wooden advent calendar for animals. Various reusable bags were for sale, and many other Christmas themed items.

There was also a raffle for a quilt next to the checkout area. The quilt had several cats and dogs on it, with some hearts and a decorative border around the outside.
