Business Spotlight: Davis Dairy Bar

[April 25, 2026]  As the temperature warms up, so does the busy season for Davis Dairy Bar, located at 511 E. Chestnut St. in Mt. Pulaski. Here you can grab sandwiches, horseshoes, corndogs, sides, drinks, and ice cream.

Jean Davis, from Mt. Pulaski, and her husband purchased the business in the fall of 2021. They bought this business in retirement. They had seen other couples take on similar businesses in retirement and thought they would enjoy it. In their fifth season of operation, they now have 15 employees. Jean says she is a people person and enjoys seeing their customers. They have received strong community support. She said it has become a safe gathering place for the community. At night, people will park, grab their ice cream, and spend the evening hanging out in the parking lot, or they will grab a seat at one of the tables on the patio to the side of the building.

The workers serving food said their Frisco melt is a lunch or dinner crowd favorite, while the Oreo Blaster is their most requested ice cream item. Their menu offers a variety of sandwiches, including hamburgers, pulled pork, hot ham & cheese, tenderloin, chicken cordon bleu, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches. Their side options include fries, tater tots, mozzarella sticks, Bosco sticks, cheese fries, onion rings, mac and cheese bites, and much more. They also offer combo meals. Their ice cream treats include milkshakes in a variety of flavors, blasters with a huge selection of mix-ins, sundaes, cones, Dole soft serve, and floats. They also offer their ice cream in pints or quarts.

Jean gave several pieces of helpful advice for those looking to go into a similar business. Her advice included: putting the customer first, having a good attitude, smiling, having fun, and working hard. The crew was about to work hard when a field trip of approximately 20 first graders arrived for a cool treat. The students gathered on the patio, and their teachers were helping them decide what to order.

The Davis Dairy Bar is open Monday through Saturday, 11:00 to 7:00, and Sundays, 2:00-7:00. Look for an announcement of longer hours for the summer. Their season runs from March to October. For more information, you can visit their Facebook page or call them at (217) 792-3782.
