Gail’s Pumpkin Patch celebrates 20 years

[October 07, 2026]  Gail’s Pumpkin Patch in rural Beason celebrated its 20th birthday on Sunday, October 4th starting with a ribbon cut at 12:30 p.m.

After the cut, everyone was invited to enjoy ice cream and cake as they shopped and played at the patch.

At the ribbon cut David and Gail Sasse were joined by their children and grandchildren. Behind the ribbon was daughter Abrigail Temple and children Katelyn, Alyssa, Hannah and Connor. Son Nathan Sasse and his children Chester, Fiona, Rachel and Natalie were behind the ribbon as well.

Others joining in the festivities were Illinois Senator Sally Turner, Logan County Board members Lance Conahan and Kathy Schmidt, Lincoln alderpersons Robin McClallen and Steve Parrott as well as Logan County royalty Little Miss Findley Farmer and Junior Miss Falyn Farmer.

The ribbon cut started with comments from Senator Turner. Turner, who is from Beason spoke to the Sasses as her neighbors, saying she has enjoyed watching them grow and succeed and she enjoyed having them as neighbors. She congratulated them.

Next to speak was Lance Conahan. Along with being a member of the board Conahan, and also Parrott, serve on the Logan County Tourism Bureau of which Gail has been a member for many years. Conahan said it was a pleasure to work with Gail on the LCTB, that she was very instrumental in accomplishing the work of the bureau. He congratulated the Sasse’s on their 20 years. Schmidt was asked if she would like to add anything and said simply that she would echo Conahan.

Parrott was called on next because of his connection to Gail and the LCTB. He said he really appreciated, and is sure that the residents of Logan County appreciate, what Gail’s Pumpkin Patch has brought to the community. He said the patch brought opportunities for everyone to celebrate fall as well as time for family with all the activities for children. McClallen was asked if she wanted to add anything. She said simply that fall would not be fall without a trip to Gail’s Pumpkin Patch.

The Sasses were invited to speak. Gail spoke first saying that they appreciate all the support they have had from the community as well as from family. She said that they enjoyed entertaining guests and having everyone come to the patch to celebrate fall.

With speeches completed, the grandchildren were invited to hold the scissor for the posed picture and then snip the ribbon at the appropriate time.

When the ribbon cut was completed, it was back to business for the Sasse family as Gail took her tours around the area to see if anyone needed assistance with anything, and also to stop and chat a bit with friends old and new.

David headed to the apple table where he was available to help shoppers choose apples and also runs the cleaner and sorter unit and bags up apples for purchase.

The cake and ice cream were served to all who wanted to enjoy a slice and there was plenty of fun for the youngsters outside in the many play areas, kittens to catch and hold, and lots of pumpkins to choose from in the yard and also out in the fields.
