Substance Use Prevention Coalition meets for spring updates
[April 10, 2026]
The Substance Use Prevention Coalition met at Lincoln Memorial
Hospital on Thursday, April 9 to plan and discuss SUPC initiative
updates. The mission of the SUPC is to promote awareness of substance
use disorder, prevent youth substance use, and improve access to
resources.
Members reported on the response to reaching out to key informants for
interviews about current issues facing youth. Several school
administrators have responded as well as a school nurse and a school
resource officer. SUPC members have scheduled some interviews for the
coming weeks and will reach out again to key informants.
Tall Cop has been booked and contracted. His popular and tailored
presentation is scheduled for August 2027. Discussion ensued about
potentially changing the day to make it as easy as possible for area
teachers to attend. There are plans to get continuing education contact
hours approved for teachers, nurses, and social workers to encourage as
much community participation as possible. The presentation is open to
the community and to other counties.

Naloxone is free at the Logan County Department of Public Health not
just for individuals, but for community organizations, as well. The
health department also has a drop box for expired and unused medications
and free red sharps boxes to collect used needles.
The coalition discussed the possibility of creating a round table event
for Logan County for organizations and non-profits to network and
connect resources with each other.
Who We Play For starts April 21. These are free EKG heart screenings for
students available at area schools. Parents can sign their students up
through their schools. A community screening will be available at the
LCDPH for $20.
