Logan County Department of Public Health promotes vaccination during
National Immunization Awareness Month
[August 20, 2025]
August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM), and the
Logan County Department of Public Health (LCDPH) is joining public
health agencies across the country to highlight the importance of
vaccination for people of all ages.
Vaccines are one of the most effective tools we have to prevent serious
illness, hospitalization, and death from infectious diseases. From
routine childhood immunizations to adult boosters and annual flu shots,
staying up to date on recommended vaccines protects not only
individuals, but entire communities.
This year’s NIAM campaign emphasizes the importance of:
• Childhood Vaccinations: Routine vaccines protect children from 14
potentially serious diseases before age two.
• Back-to-School Readiness: Ensuring school-aged children and teens are
up to date on required vaccines.
• Adult and Older Adult Immunizations: Including shingles, pneumonia,
and tetanus boosters.
• Maternal Vaccines: Protecting pregnant individuals and their babies
from diseases like whooping cough and influenza.

“Vaccines are a cornerstone of public health,” said Kara Davis, RN,
Director of Nursing. “They’re safe, effective, and help us avoid
outbreaks of preventable diseases. National Immunization Awareness Month
is a great time to check with your healthcare provider and make sure you
and your family are protected.”
LCDPH encourages everyone to review their vaccination records and talk
to their healthcare provider about recommended immunizations.
The LCDPH clinic is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 am-3:45 pm. If you have
questions regarding vaccines, please call LCDPH at 217-735-2317. For

the LCDPH website at WWW.LCDPH.ORG.
