Substance Use Prevention Coalition Convenes for September Updates

[September 15, 2025]  The Substance Use Prevention Coalition (SUPC) met at Lincoln Memorial Hospital (LMH) on Thursday, September 11. The coalition meets monthly at LMH to share resources and updates about substance use prevention and recovery efforts in Logan County and surrounding areas.

The meeting began with an update and continued discussion of bringing Tall Cop to the community for substance use prevention training. Options include one to multi-hour in-person trainings, webinars, and a community scan. Discussion ensued of optimal timing for training, particularly a time when teachers could come, and the benefit of having more than one training throughout the year.

Attendees discussed recruitment efforts to area leaders and community members. All vested parties are encouraged to join SUPC meetings.

Drug Take Back Day is at the end of October. Police must be involved in any drug surrender. Members discussed returned-pill destruction by incineration and drug deactivator liquid. Drug deactivation liquids are available in a variety of amounts, including receptacles that drugs can be added to over time. All syringes must be disposed of in designated boxes. They should not be discarded in regular trash disposal.

Prevention Updates:
“Too Good for Drugs” curriculum is currently being taught in area schools by prevention specialists as a primary prevention initiative. A new curriculum was released this month.
