Obituary
Wanda Lee Cross, 86, of Emden, IL,
passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Mason
City Nursing Home.
Wanda was born March 22, 1938, in Pinckneyville, IL,
the daughter of Phillip and Lucille (Koenigstein)
Doolin. The family moved to Lincoln. Wanda worked at
St. Clara’s Hospital and also at Dog & Suds Root
Beer stand; where she met her future husband, Gene.
They were married on March 15, 1958, in Emden. They
were the parents of four children, Michael, Karen,
Linda, and Brian.
Wanda and Gene had a dairy farm which was a
full-time job, so it was hard to go on vacation.
They started to do a little camping. Wanda was a
good cook and baker. She made cinnamon rolls, which
were delicious. Wanda also liked to go to garage
sales.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Gene; daughters,
Karen Ruder and Linda (Quint) Harnacke; her brother,
Roger Doolin of Murray, KY; six grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild with
one more on the way. |
She was preceded in death by her
parents; two sons, Michael and Brian Cross; and her
siblings, Kenneth, Maurice, and Phyllis.
Wanda will be greatly missed by all who knew her and
her little dog “Suzy”.
Funeral services for Wanda will be held at 11:00 am
on Friday, December 27, 2024, at St. Peter’s
Lutheran Church in Emden, IL. Visitation will take
place one hour prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am also
at the church. Burial will follow the service at
Hartsburg Union Cemetery. Memorials may be made in
Wanda’s name to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden
or The Emden Rescue Squad. Arrangements have been
entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
