Obituary
Carol Jane Petri, 81,
of Elkhart, IL, passed away on Friday, January 16,
2026, at Mason City Nursing Home.
Carol was born on January 3, 1945, in Murphysboro,
IL, the daughter of Allen R. and Leona (Woods)
Sparling. She married Harley John Petri on October
14, 1967, in Flora, IL. He preceded her in death on
June 16, 2025.
Carol is survived by her children, Jody Ruff and
Scott (Sarah Blessing) Petri both of Lincoln;
grandchildren, Johanna (Alec) Casado, Justin
(Taylor) Ruff, and Jillian (Brian) Medina; and
great-grandchildren, Delilah, Ava Jane, and Eliza.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
Harley, and brother, Herschel Sparling.
Carol was a member of several Christian churches
through the years, finding a home at Mt. Pulaski
Christian Church most recently. She was active in
the Elkhart community, taught piano lessons, and
assisted with vacation bible school. Carol played
the organ, piano, and bells at church, as well as
sang in the choir. Most of all, Carol loved spending
time with her family, especially her grandchildren. |
A memorial service for
Carol will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February
13, 2026, at Mt. Pulaski Christian Church.
Visitation will take place two hours prior, from
9:00 - 11:00 am, also at the church. Burial will be
at a later date at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln.
Memorials may be made in Carol’s name to the Humane
Society of Logan County. Arrangements have been
entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
