Obituary

Jill D. Burden, 81, of Waynesville, left the horrible disease of dementia behind and went home to Heaven to be with her family.

Born on June 3, 1943, in Lincoln, Jill was the cherished daughter of Jesse and Lucille Rich Coppenbarger. She graduated from McLean-Waynesville High School in 1961. On February 25, 1963, she married Ronnie Burden in Shawneetown, Ill. They shared 58 years of love and companionship until his passing in May 2021.

Jill’s heart was boundless when it came to animals. There was no creature too small or too great that did not find a place in her care – whether it be a dog or cat curled at her feet, a raccoon in her home, or a donkey or cow grazing nearby. Her compassion extended not only to people but to every creature that crossed her path.

She also carried a deep love for travel and adventure. Winters spent in Daytona Beach, Fla., with Ronnie were filled with sunshine and laughter as they embraced new experiences and friendships that enriched their journey together.

Jill is survived by her son, Rick Burden of Clinton, her daughter Crystal (Mike) Hardwick of Hillview, and her grandchildren: Michael Hardwick of Hillview, Jessica (Ricky) Monkman of Clinton, April (Luke Olson) Bryan of Stanford, and Jeff Bryan II of Heyworth. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her sisters: Dixie Furman of Waynesville, Cathy Sullivan of Rockport, Tex., Judy (Tim) Donovan of Estero, Fla., and her baby brother Terry (Becky) Coppenbarger of Lincoln.

Her kindness, warmth, and strength will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A private memorial will be held in the spring.

Memorials may be made to Ruby’s Rescue & Retreat, Inc., McLean, Ill. or Alzheimer’s Association.

Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta is assisting the family.
