Brenda D. Hawkins, 67, of Lincoln, passed away in Decatur,
surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, March 6, 2025. |

Obituary
Brenda D. Hawkins, 67, of Lincoln,
passed away in Decatur, surrounded by her loving
family, on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Services for Brenda will be held at Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home in Atlanta on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. with
Mr. Tony Billingsley officiating. Cremation Rites
have been accorded.
Brenda Denise Leigh was born September 22, 1957, the
daughter of Sargent and Reba Burks Leigh. She was
united in marriage to Jeffrey Hawkins on December 1,
1984. He survives.
Brenda is also survived by four daughters: Melissa
(Ryan) Brune, Chelsea (Nick) Brewer, Shelby (Nick)
Allen, and Caitlin (Matt Sledge) Hawkins; one sister
Karen (Dave) Bell; and six grandchildren: Ryan
Comstock, Kierstin Allen, Abbi Allen, Skylin Wombles,
Holden Brewer, and Sawyer Brewer.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Brenda graduated from Eureka High
School in 1975. She then graduated from the
Bloomington School of Practical Nursing as a
Licensed Practical Nurse. Brenda retired from
Midwest Technical Institute (MTI) where she taught
in the field of medical assisting. Prior to MTI, she
worked in doctors’ offices in Lincoln.

She also held the Director of Nursing
position at Chestnut Health Systems where she
supported those with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Her
favorite place to nurse was with the residents at
Heritage Manor. She loved spending time with her
grandchildren and her dog, Curly, corresponding with
her former students, and reading.
Memorials may be made to National Psoriasis
Foundation or Ruby’s Rescue & Retreat in McLean.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home of Atlanta.
