Obituary

Joyce Board, age 88, of Lincoln, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at her home with her family by her side.

Joyce was born on July 28, 1937, in Lincoln, IL., the daughter of Orville and Julia (Shalla) Anderson. She married Marvin “Marv” Board on July 4, 1958, in Lincoln, IL. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2017.

Joyce is survived by her children, Vickie (Keith) Hasprey of Lincoln, Victor Board of Lincoln, Scott Board, Lincoln, Jeff Board of Encino, CA; her grandchildren, Nathan, Nicolas, Katlyn, Aurora, Maya, Maverick, and Alex; one great-grandson, Rowan; her daughter-in-law, Regina Board; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Anderson, Doris Anderson, and Kathy Anderson; her brother-in-law, David Young. Additionally, Joyce is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marv; her son, Doug; her brothers, Robert "Andy”, Walter "Bugs”, Ronald "Ronnie”, Kenneth “Speed”; twin brothers, Larry and Gary; and her sister, Carol "Sue” Young.

Joyce worked for the bottle factory for 19 years, she and her husband, Marv moved to Los Angeles in 1986; they moved back to Lincoln in 1994 and purchased the 5th street Wash House and Broadway Cleaners. They consolidated those businesses into Family Custom Cleaners in 2000.

She was a member of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary board and a member of the Lincoln Women’s Club. Joyce volunteered at Lincoln Memorial Hospital’s gift shop. She also volunteered at The Pink Shutter and Logan County Food Pantry.

Joyce and Marv raised their children to acknowledge everyone you meet on a daily basis and to always help take care of people in need. Joyce and Marv were genuinely a gift from God.

She and her siblings communicated back and forth jokingly over the years about who would be “the last man standing”. It wasn't her choice, but Joyce was the last man standing.

Joyce’s wishes were to not have a memorial service but for everyone to remember her as the kind person she was. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Zion Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Joyce’s name to Lincoln Logan Food Pantry. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
