- Shirley Jean Helton, 90, (formerly of Mt. Pulaski), passed away
peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Dolan Memory Care, Kerry
House, in Maryland Heights, MO.

Obituary
Shirley Jean Helton,
90, (formerly of Mt. Pulaski), passed away
peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Dolan
Memory Care, Kerry House, in Maryland Heights, MO.
Born on January 31st, 1936, in Lincoln, IL., the
daughter of Norman and Ruby Schahl, and the third of
five children. She married Glen V. Helton (PeeWee)
in 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Pulaski, and
they later divorced in 1973. They have four
children, Norman (Lisa) Helton, Dale (Cathy) Helton,
Gary Helton, and Diane Witting. She has seven
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three
great-great grandchildren. Shirley is also survived
by her two sisters, Louetta Lewis and Janet White.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings:
Clifford Schahl and Judy Wessel, and the love of her
life, Tony Keller, as well as many aunts and uncles.
Shirley lived for the past two years at Dolan Memory
Care Homes, where she enjoyed the friendships of
residents and staff. The Helton Family wishes to
thank all the staff at Dolan for their loving
comfort and kindness. |
There will be a
private graveside service at Steenbergen Cemetery in
Mt. Pulaski. A Celebration of Life will be held for
friends and family at 3:00pm, on Saturday, March 28,
2026, at the Mt. Pulaski American Legion Home Post
447 (104 Scroggin Ave., Mt. Pulaski, IL.).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in
Shirley’s memory to either Zion Lutheran Church in
Mt. Pulaski or Zion Lutheran School in Mt. Pulaski.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski
is assisting the family with arrangements.
