[March 06, 2026]  LINCOLN - Lois Krause Smith, 98, of Lincoln, IL, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at The Carriages in Rochester. She was a resident of the Carriages for 2 ½ years.

Visitation:  Monday, March 30, 2026, from 10 - 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Service:  Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the church.

Obituary

Lois Krause Smith, 98, of Lincoln, IL, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at The Carriages in Rochester. She was a resident of the Carriages for 2 ½ years.

Lois was born on September 8, 1927, in New Holland, IL, the daughter of Ervin and Vesta (Darnell) Buchholz who preceded her in death.

Lois graduated from New Holland High School. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln. For 32 years, Lois worked on the farm side by side with her husband, Wallace, until his passing in 1978. Lois was also preceded in death by her second husband, Warren Smith, in 2008. Also preceding her in death were her brother, Harmon Buchholz; sister-in-law, Alma Buchholz; and her step-granddaughter, Molly Shroat.

Lois is survived by her son, Randy (Linda) Krause of Port Gamble, WA; daughter, Lynde (Bruce) Hays of Rochester, IL; grandchildren, Brady (Anne) Hays, Brett (Sheri) Hays, Eric (Julie) Krause and Katie Krause; plus ten great-granddaughters, Clara, Alyssa, Lilia, Isabella, Addison, Evahleigh, Annabelle, Caroline, Emeline, and Breanna.; and great-grandson, Lucas. She is also survived by her stepson, Mike (Cindy) Smith; step-grandchildren, Libby (Frank) Huston and Michael (Rachel) Smith Jr.; and nine step-great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Transitions Hospice and The Carriages for the caring support they provided for Lois. She passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family.

A memorial service for Lois will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Visitation will take place one hour prior from 10:00 - 11:00 am, also at the church. Lois’ final resting place will be at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be made in Lois’ name to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
