Lewis Alexander III, 78, of Atlanta, IL., passed away April 3, 2025. Cremation rites have been accorded by Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. There will be no services at this time.

Lewis was born July 3, 1946, in Bloomington, IL., the son of Lewis Samuel Alexander Jr. and Lois Ray (Bennett). He graduated from Lincoln Junior College in 1967 and completed coursework in geology and mining engineering at the University of Missouri at Rolla. He was a certified operator of nuclear equipment. He was a senior engineering technician at Crawford Murphy & Tilly, Inc., retiring after 47 years of service. He worked as a resident construction engineer on several airport, roadway, and municipal projects in Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri.

He was a member of the Springfield Aviation Group, was an avid reader, an outdoorsman, loved spending time outside tending to and planting his garden. He enjoyed white water canoeing, loved his cats, and enjoyed spending time with good friends at Beer 30.

Survivors include close family friends Cheryl (the late Huey) Jones, Amy Martin, Tad (Kendall) Martin, Robin (Joe) Cook, and the Beer 30 crew: George Petro, Stan Lessen, and Curt Fox.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his aunt.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heritage in Flight Museum at 1351 Airport Rd., Lincoln, IL 62656.
