Josephine Ann Bishop, 96, of Lincoln

Josephine “Jo” was born on July 8,1928, in Lincoln,
IL, to John Patrick and Mabel Ann (Mathein) Hickey.
She married Robert D. Bishop in Lincoln on December
8,1947. He preceded her in death in 2014.
She is survived by three sons, Bob (Ann) of Daphne,
AL, Mike (Marni) of Sibley, IL, and Jim (Paula)
Bishop of Lincoln, IL; two daughters, Mindy (Todd)
Courtwright of Lincoln, IL, and Donna (Ron)

and thirty-two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Jack; one
granddaughter, April; and her brother, Eugene
Hickey.
In 1946, while still a high school student, she went
to work for Illinois Commercial Telephone Company as
an operator. She retired from the successor company,
General Telephone Company, in 1983. She was a member
and past President of the American Legion Post #263
Auxiliary. |

After retirement, Jo and Bob spent
twenty sunny winters at Ft. Myers Beach, FL. She
loved listening to Elvis. Her biggest joys were her
family and dancing with “Elvis” at both her 90th and
95th birthday parties.
A funeral mass for Jo will be held at 11:00 am on
Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic
Church in Lincoln. Visitation will take place one
hour prior from 10:00 - 11:00 am, also at the
church. Burial will follow the service at Holy Cross
Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be made in Jo’s
name to the American Legion Post #263 or Holy Family
Food Pantry. Arrangements have been entrusted to
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
Jo’s family would like to thank the St Clara’s staff
on Cedar and Mahogany for the wonderful care they
