Obituary

Ronald Nye, 72, of Lincoln, IL, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Ronald was born February 15, 1954, in Peoria, IL, the son of Ralph and Helen (McClain) Nye. He married Diane Lynn Boss on June 9, 1974, in Lincoln. She preceded him in death in 1992. Ronald found love again and married Patricia Caveny on September 20, 2003.

Ronald is survived by his wife; his children, Nichole (Chris Tennyson) Nye and Ryan (Jepsy) Nye; his step-daughter, Kathleen (Jeff) Kaiser; his grandchildren, Brandon, McKayla, Nathan, Alondra, and Noah; his step-grandchildren, Kameron and Leighten Kaiser; his great-grandchildren, Bentley, Bryleigh, Liam, and Kaleb; and his brother, David Nye.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Diane Lynn.

Ronald had a way of embracing the outdoors that made every moment feel like an adventure. Whether he was fishing Lincoln Lakes, feeding wild animals, or mushroom hunting with patience, he seemed most at home surrounded by nature.

What made it all even richer was how much he found joy in his grandchildren - watching them grow, teaching them the little things he’d learned over a lifetime. Those moments weren’t just hobbies for him, they were the way he connected, celebrated life, and passed on a bit of his spirit to the next generation.

Funeral services for Ronald will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, IL. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service from 9:00-11:00am, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be made in Ronald’s name to the American Cancer Society.
