Obituary
Kevin Robert Ubbenga,
66, of Hartsburg, IL, passed away unexpectedly on
Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
Kevin was born on May 14, 1960, in Lincoln, IL, the
son of Henry Robert “Bob” and Joyce (Suey) Ubbenga.
He married Gail Cross on March 6, 1982, in Emden,
IL.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Gail; mother, Joyce;
children, Krista (Brett) Swanson, Scott (Jeni
Nussbaum) Ubbenga, and Kelsi (Robby) Meeker; and his
grandchildren, Bianca, Karina, Susana and Brock
Swanson, Jackson and Parker Ubbenga, and Gabrielle
and Adalaide Meeker. He is also survived by his
siblings, Debbie Bates and Nelson Ubbenga; and his
father and mother in-law, Robert and Julia Cross.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob, and
brother-in-law, Eric Bates.
Kevin lived out his Christian faith as a humble
servant in his church and community. He was a member
of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden. He was a
current board member of Hartsburg Grain and Camp
Griesheim Christian Retreat Center, where he had
been serving as president. Kevin was also a trustee
and past road commissioner for Prairie Creek
Township. He had previously served on the
Hartsburg-Emden school board, where he was a 1978
graduate. |

Kevin began working
alongside his dad in the family trucking business
and later started farming in 1989. He just completed
planting his 38th crop this spring. Kevin enjoyed
traveling with Gail and going on annual fishing
trips with his lifelong friends. Most of all, he was
a devoted husband, dad, and papa.
Funeral services for
Kevin will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 3,
2026, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden.
Visitation will take place the night prior on
Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm, also at
the church. An additional hour of visitation will be
held Wednesday from 9:00 - 10:00 am prior to the
service. Burial will follow the service at Hartsburg
Union Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Kevin’s
name to Camp Griesheim Christian Retreat Center,
Hartem FFA, or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
