Obituary
Michael R. “Mike”
Bruns, 74, of Emden, IL, passed away on Tuesday,
June 9, 2026, at Hopedale Nursing Home.
Mike was born December 21, 1951, in Pekin, IL, the
son of George Lee “Shorty” and Mary (Reiners) Bruns.
He married Jill Rademaker on September 11, 1971, in
Emden. She preceded him in death in 2021.
Mike is survived by his daughters, Angie Bruns and
Sheree (Jerry) Stark; grandchildren, Ryan (Kourtney)
Hedrick, Madison Stark, Jacob Stark, and Joshua
Stark; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Lucy
Hedrick; and his sister, Sue Fitzpatrick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jill;
sister, Barbara; and his brother, Richard.
Mike was a farmer in
the Emden area for many years. He never missed a
game when it came to the Chicago Bears, Chicago
Cubs, or The Fighting Illini. Most of all, Mike
loved spending time with his family, especially his
grandchildren.

Funeral services for
Mike will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 13,
2026, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden.
Visitation will take place the night prior, Friday,
June 12, 2026, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Burial will follow the service at Hartsburg Union
Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Michael’s name to
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Sons of the
American Legion Post #506 in Emden. Arrangements
have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
