[June 24, 2024]  LINCOLN - John M. Plut, of Lincoln passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Visitation:  9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln

Service:  11 a.m. Saturday at the church

Obituary

John M. Plut, 71, of Lincoln passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born on August 15, 1952, in Lincoln, the son of the late Victor and Frances (Welch) Plut. John married Mary Bruns on June 5, 1971, in Lincoln, IL. She survives.

John is also survived by his daughter, Melissa (Tommy) Cecil; his granddaughter, Courtney Cecil; four sisters, Vicky (Don) Goodin, Jeanne Dewbray, Kate (Frank) Phillips, and Monica (Ron) Iwanski; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Timothy M. Plut.

Following the birth of his daughter, John served in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed spending time at the Knights of Columbus Council #1250, where he held the position of Grand Knight 3rd and 4th degree for many years. He enjoyed spending his free time catching up with friends, fishing, gardening, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. John owned and operated Plut Heating and Cooling.

A memorial mass for John will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln. Visitation will take place prior from 9:00 am - 11:00 am also at the church. Burial to follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lincoln where full military rites will be accorded by the Lincoln American Legion Post #263. Following the burial, the family will host a memorial luncheon at the Knights of Columbus in Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship fund.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
