[July 18, 2026]  PEORIA -  Dr. William (Bill) R Kohler was born to Roland Lester & Florence M Thieme Kohler on July 1, 1935 in Peoria and passed away on July 14, 2026.

Service: Graveside services will be held at Bethel Cemetery Emden, Illinois at 10 a.m. Thursday July 23rd.

Obituary

Dr. William (Bill) R Kohler was born to Roland Lester & Florence M Thieme Kohler on July 1, 1935 in Peoria and passed away on July 14, 2026.

He married Susan L Wagoner on April 9, 1960. They were married 66 years.

William is survived by his three children Cheryl Frisby of Gilbert Arizona, Keith Kohler of Morton Illinois and Joe Kohler of Brimfield Illinois. One sister, Marlene Reliford preceded him in death.

He has three grandchildren, Katie, Mike and Bill. He also has five great grandchildren, Kylie, Shelby, Michael, Dean and Madison.

Bill was a graduate of Longfellow Grade School, Woodruff High School and Bradley University where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. Bill graduated in 1958 with a B.S. Degree. He then attended Loyola University School of Dentistry and was a member of the Phi Omega Fraternity. He graduated in 1962 with a D.D.S. Degree.

He came back to Peoria and started his Dental Practice with Dr. Tony Peters for two years and then four years on South Adam Street. He then moved to 1916 N. Knoxville and was there for 30 years until he had sudden cardiac death but a miracle he survived in 1998. He was the only one of 1500 who survives this type of heart attack.

He and his family were members of Willow Knolls Country Club. He was a member of Peoria District Dental Society and had a few office positions: Illinois Dental Association; American Dental Association. After his heart attack, he became a Semi-retired Dentist. He worked for 12 different Dentists and filled in for them when they were on vacation. Bill worked for the Dental Sealant program in Central Illinois Grade Schools with hygienists and assistants. All children received a cleaning, exam, toothbrush and toothpaste. Bill worked at the BCD (Bleeding and Clotting Disorder Institutes) with hemophilia and thrombosis patients. He also worked part time at ICC in the Dental Hygiene Program.

Bill was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Illinois.

Graveside services will be held at Bethel Cemetery Emden, Illinois at 10 a.m. Thursday July 23rd.
