Obituary
Judith “Judy” C.
Cagle, 86, of Chatham, passed away on Thursday,
August 27, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital.
Judy was born February 2, 1940, the daughter of
James H. and T. Marguerite Smith Williams. She
married Lane Cagle on February 7, 1959. He preceded
Judy in death on April 16, 2026.
Judy is survived by one son, Douglas L. (Kim) Cagle;
daughter-in-law, Terri Lessen Cagle; six
grandchildren: Dena (Tim) Pope, Jeremy (Chrissy)
Cagle, Jillian Cagle, Bryan Cagle, Magon (Damian)
Germscheid, and Ryan (Sarah) Mills. She also leaves
13 great-grandchildren: Ava and Jase Pope, Emma and
Grace Cagle, Kinsley and Carter Mayberry, Sarah,
Joseph, Abigail and Russell Germscheid, and Olivia,
Charlee and Ben Mills. In addition is her bonus
family, Scott Ostermeier and his children Andrew
(Willow) and Quinn; and several nieces and nephews.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents; husband;
one son, Earle; one brother Don Williams; and two
brothers-in-law Ronnie and David.
Judy was a graduate of Kincaid High School and
attended Lincoln Land Community College. She owned
and operated a home daycare for about 10 years in
the 1970s. She then worked for many years at HSHS
St. John’s Hospital as administration secretary for
the head of nursing, retiring in 2002.

She attended South
Fork Christian Church in Rochester with her family.
Judy had played piano for South Fork Christian
Church and Edinburg Christian Church for many years.
She enjoyed all kinds of crafting, but especially
crochet and diamond art. Judy was an avid reader and
fan of the Illini basketball team. She had played
basketball in high school. Judy also enjoyed putting
together genealogy books for her family.
Services are scheduled
for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at South Fork
Church, Rochester, IL. Visitation will begin at 9:00
a.m., to be followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30
a.m. led by Pastor David Johnson.
Private burial will take place Edinburg Cemetery at
a later date.
Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln is serving the
family.
