Obituary
“I have fought the good fight, I
have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2
Timothy 4:7
Lincoln - Donald “Don” Clarence Jordan, 93, of
Lincoln, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 3,
2025, at his home. He was a faithful Christian
servant, a pillar of the community, and an amazing
husband, dad, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Don meaningfully touched many lives and will be
dearly missed.
Don was born September 2, 1932, in Ralston, IA, the
son of Henry and Mabel (Linn) Jordan. He married
Janice Jean Smith on June 9, 1957, in Woodbine, IA.
She passed away in 1999. He then married Shirley
Hutchcraft Prowell on July 30, 2000, in Lincoln. She
survives.
Don is also survived by his children, Debra Jordan
of Lincoln and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Jordan of Boulder
City, NV; stepchildren, Angela Ott of Lawndale, IL
and Christy (Jerry) Willman of Waverly, IL;
grandchildren, Amanda Billy of CA, Mitchell
(Brittney) Billy of Dallas, GA, Kate Jordan of
Springfield, IL, Joshua Donald Smith (Jocelyn)
Jordan of Cincinnati, OH, Drew (Megan) Jordan of
Biloxi, MS, and Nicole (Russell) Baade of Newbury
Park, CA; step-grandchildren, Jacob (Megan) Day and
Isaac and Nathan Willman, great-grandchildren,
Bristol Billy, Keiley Jordan, Lucille Hinds, Arthur,
Calvin Jeffrey, and Violet Baade, Janelle and Jamie
Jordan, and another great-grandson on the way; and
brothers, Phil (Ellen) Jordan of Mountain Home, AR
and Larry Jordan of Scranton, IA.
Don proudly served in the United States Marines from
1954-1956 as a Morse Code instructor, remaining
proficient his entire life. He worked 42 years for
J.C. Penney, starting in the shoe department in
Ames, IA, and ultimately being promoted to store
manager in Rushville, IL, then Lincoln. He also
worked 29 years for Graue, Inc., as a courtesy
driver until his 90th birthday.
Don loved his community and lived the life of a
servant; smiling, giving, asking, sharing,
volunteering, and singing. He was a member of the
Lincoln/Logan Chamber of Commerce, serving as a
president; the Rotary Club since 1969, President of
LCHS Basketball Boosters for 7 years, Oasis Senior
Center Emcee of the Fun-O-Leers band and member of
the Board of Directors, and Lincoln Land Community
Concert Board of Directors. He was a member of Faith
Lutheran Church, serving as president and head
elder.

Don loved watching/playing just about
every sport and followed St. Louis Cardinals
baseball and Lincoln Railers basketball avidly. He
coached his son's little league baseball and
football teams to many victories, played soccer,
baseball, and football with neighborhood kids, and
threw a football and chased his grandchildren in the
backyard into his 80’s.
Anyone who knew Don knows he loved to
sing. He joyfully sang with his church’s choir and
always looked for chances to regale an audience with
Frank Sinatra classics. For a man who didn’t drink,
he spent a lot of time in bars just to karaoke.
Don loved his family dearly and took great pride and
interest in his children and grandchildren. Most
likely, if you talked to him for more than a few
minutes you learned something about their careers,
schooling, accomplishments, accolades, and life
events. Don spent countless hours playing cards with
a competitive spirit, bringing his family to tears
laughing with his witty humor, and impressing them
by recounting sports statistic from memory and doing
math in his head.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife,
Janice; and brother, Dean.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 14, 2025,
from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday,
September 15, 2025, also at the funeral home.
Burial at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln will follow the
service; full military rites will be accorded by
American Legion Post #263.
Don’s family is hosting a “Celebration of Don” at
the American Legion after the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don’s
name to Lincoln Rotary Club or the American Legion
Post #263.
