Gerald D. “David” Welty, 97, of Lincoln, IL, formerly of Macomb, IL, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

David was born on June 27, 1928, in Clearfield County, PA., the son of Gerald F. and Florence (Jones) Welty. He was united in marriage to Audrey I. Green on February 1, 1953, in DuBois, PA. Audrey preceded him in death on July 20, 2021.

Survivors include his 3 children, Ellen (Kirk) Dobihal of Lincoln, IL, Mark (Sue) Welty of Broken Arrow, OK, and Paul (Lila) Welty of Browns Summit, NC. David is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Barbara Nelson and Mary Ellen Heeter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 1 sister, Belva Durbin.

Even though David and his wife were raised in Western Pennsylvania, David wanted to try farming in the Midwest. They moved to West-Central Illinois following their marriage in 1953. Farming was their life until David decided on a new career path as a Registered Nurse. He received his BSN from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa in May 1978 and began working at Roseville Christian Nursing Home, eventually becoming the Director of Nursing there. David finished his nursing career at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL.

David served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a longtime member of Lincoln Christian Church. David and Audrey were also charter members of Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb where they served in many different ministries. David was a fervent reader and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, flower gardening, and solving his daily favorite game show “Wheel of Fortune”. Most of all, David excelled at serving others in his community any way that he could.

A memorial service for David will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Lincoln Christian Church. A private inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Gerald David Welty to Lincoln Christian Church or Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb.
