Obituary
Barbara S. “Barb” Johnson, 87, of
Bloomington, Illinois, left this earthly life on
September 15, 2025.
Barb was born to James and Fairby
(Bray) Brandt on August 18, 1938, and was raised in
Armington, Illinois. She graduated from Hittle
Township High School in 1956.
Barb married her husband of 67 years, James “Jim”
Johnson, on March 29, 1958. Together they moved to
Minier, where they spent most of their life. They
had a daughter, Pamela (Gregory) Lee, and a son,
Andrew Johnson. She dearly loved her two
grandchildren, Kristen Lee (Luke) Arnold and Ryan (Tori)
Lee. Her four great-granddaughters, Lorelei and
Anabelle Arnold, and Ryan and Tori’s two daughters
brought her much joy.
Barb worked numerous jobs throughout her life,
including the Abstract Company, Funks Seeds, Dr.
Lainvee’s office, the Olympia Review, Anderson
Insurance, and Village Flowers & Gifts.
She loved serving her community through volunteer
service at places she felt were important, such as
the Minier Rescue Squad as an EMT, Minier Christian
Church, Armington Christian Church, and Relay for
Life. She valued time with friends and family and
often invited those she loved to spend time with her
at Minier Lake, where she was a long-time member.
Typically, when you saw her, you left with a
gift—she was especially good at sharing her homemade
jellies and jams. |

Barb is survived by her husband,
son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many
siblings, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded
in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law,
four brothers and a sister, daughter, son, and
brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation and funeral will be held
at Armington Christian Church on Friday, September
19, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.,
followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
Minister Tyler Escoubas will officiate. A brief
graveside service will follow at Mountjoy Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Barb asked that donations be
made to the Sotos Syndrome Support Association (SotosSyndrome.org)
in her memory.
