HORSESHOE
BEND, AR — Ronald D. Miller, 82, of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, passed
away on August 22, 2026, at UAMS in Little Rock, AR. He was born on
July 30, 1944, to Kenneth O. and Mary K. (Folkes) Miller in Lincoln,
IL.

Obituary
Ronald D. Miller, 82,
of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, passed away on August
22, 2026, at UAMS in Little Rock, AR. He was born on
July 30, 1944, to Kenneth O. and Mary K. (Folkes)
Miller in Lincoln, IL.
After graduating from Lincoln Community High School
in 1962, he served in the Illinois National Guard
and attended college. A 30-year career with
Caterpillar reflected his strong work ethic and
dedication. In 1971, he married Gail Reynolds, who
brought her daughter, Heidi, into the marriage.
Their daughter, Melanie, was born in 1972. Following
their divorce, he married Shirley Bree in 1983.
Bowling was among his favorite pastimes in his
younger years. Ron was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and
Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed new vehicles,
especially Dodge and Chrysler models. Maintaining a
beautiful yard and garden, complete with an
asparagus patch, brought him great satisfaction, and
he loved to cook.
After retiring to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, with
Shirley in 1996, golf became one of his greatest
passions. Membership in Turkey Mountain Golf Club
led to many enjoyable years, including service as
president of the men's golf league. Rarely seen
without a brimmed hat, he became known for that
signature look. He loved to pass the time with a
good Hallmark movie. Conversations with his uncles,
sisters, lifelong friends, daughter Melanie,
grandson Jarett, and many others was his favorite
way to stay connected. Most of all, he cherished
spending time with his daughter and her family,
traveling and making memories with them.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Melanie Witte
(Chris), and grandsons, Jarett and Dawson, of
Freeburg, IL; sisters Twila Coffey of Hartsburg, IL,
Elaine Lazell of Springfield, IL, and Jean (Jerry)
Cisco of Atlanta, IL; several nieces and nephews;
stepdaughters Heidi Heidbreder, Sherri Baskett, and
Lori Whitson; and many step-grandchildren. |
He was preceded in death by
his parents; his wife, Shirley; infant brother, Kenneth O.
Miller Jr., brothers in law, Wayne Alfred Coffey and John
Lazell, one niece, Anna; and his stepdaughter, Victoria
Robinson.
A celebration of life will be
held at a later date in the Lincoln, IL, area.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the
American Diabetes Association.
