Railsplitters edge Riverton 5-4

[March 21, 2026]  The Lincoln Railsplitters came from behind in the late innings to defeat Riverton 5-4 on Friday at Mike Curry Field.
 
Lincoln led 3-0 after the first two innings.
 
After singles by Grady Rutledge and Austin Lucas in the bottom of the first inning, Lincoln scored their first run on an error.  

 

Bryce Vlahovich, Tate Aue and Brett Hayes each singled to start the bottom of the second inning. Vlahovich was out trying to score on a fielder’s choice by Cooper Koehler but Karson Komnick was able to drive in Aue on a sacrifice fly to left. Rutledge followed Komnick in the lineup and he hit an RBI single to left that scored Hayes.

Lincoln held a 3-0 lead until the fifth inning.

Riverton loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning on a single and two walks with one out. The Hawks plated their first run on a ground out. A double by Logan LaDew brought home two runs to tie the game.

A leadoff triple followed by a single in the Hawks’ sixth inning put Riverton up 4-3.

Vlahovich, Hayes and Koehler each singled in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hayes drove in the tying run with his line drive to left field and he scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

The Hawks got the leadoff batter on base in the seventh inning but Lucas was able to retire the next three batters and earn the win for the Railsplitters.

Grady Rutledge, a freshman, started the game for Lincoln and he was fantastic through four and one-third innings. Rutledge struck out ten batters and walked one. He gave up two earned runs on six hits.

Austin Lucas worked two and two-thirds innings in relief, giving up three hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out two. Lucas earned the win.

The Railsplitters had eleven hits on the afternoon.

Grady Rutledge, Bryce Vlahovich and Brett Hayes each had two hits for Lincoln.

Karson Komnick, Austin Lucas, Owen Comstock, Tate Aue and Cooper Koehler each had one hit.

The Railsplitters (2-0) will play today at 10:00 a.m. at Olympia.
