U-High squeaks by Lady Railers 5-4

The Normal University High Pioneers beat the Lady Railers 5-4
on Tuesday afternoon at Schweitzer Field.
The two teams were scoreless through three innings.
The Pioneers broke through with an RBI single in the top of the
fourth inning for a 1-0 lead.
A double and a home run were the big hits in the top of the fifth
inning that allowed the Pioneers a 4-0 lead. Nicole Ekhoff, a
sophomore, hit the two-run home run to center for U-High.
Lincoln was able to make it a ballgame in the bottom of the fifth
inning with singles by Morgan Sheley and Sage Gilbert and a two-run
triple by Grey Gilbert. Grey Gilbert also scored later in the inning
on an error and the lead was trimmed to 4-3.
A lead-off double was trouble for the Lady Railers in the top of the
seventh inning. Two outs later the Pioneers slugged another double
and they increased the lead to 5-3 over Lincoln.
The Lady Railers tried their best to rally in the bottom of the
seventh inning but a two-out single by Addy Mahler that drove in a
run, with help from an error, was the best they could do.
Lincoln had four hits in the 5-4 loss.
Sage Gilbert, Grey Gilbert, Addy Mahler and Morgan Sheley each
recorded hits for Lincoln.

Norah Block took the loss for Lincoln. She worked
four and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and four runs. Only
one run was earned. She struck out four batters.
Laurynn Mayberry pitched two and one-third innings. She gave up
three hits and one run. She struck out one batter.
Adia Wheelwright earned the win for U-High.
The Pioneers improved to 12-4.
Lincoln falls to 10-8.
Lincoln will play at Metamora on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
