Mount Pulaski falls to Delavan 55-50

[January 24, 2026]  Mount Pulaski hosted Delavan on Friday night and the Panthers rallied late in the game, defeating Mount Pulaski 55-50.

Franklin Wade led Mount Pulaski in scoring with 19 points.

Aaron Volle contributed 14 points in the loss.

First quarter
There were several small lead changes in the first quarter but the two teams managed to settle on a 15-15 score after the first eight minutes. Franklin Wade and Aaron Volle each sank 3s in the opening quarter. Volle would toss in seven points to lead Mount Pulaski in scoring.

Second quarter
The two teams went back and forth in scoring in the second quarter, keeping things close. Delavan scored the go-ahead bucket six seconds before the half, taking a 28-27 lead to the locker room.
 


Third quarter

Mount Pulaski was able to take a four-point lead periodically in the third quarter. Wade and Volle continued to provide much of the offense to keep the Hilltoppers in the lead. Reed Martin scored in the paint with 1:10 left to give Mount Pulaski their largest lead of the quarter, 40-34 the score. With 25.3 seconds left in the third the Panthers cut the deficit with a three-pointer. Mount Pulaski was hanging on to a 40-37 lead heading to the final quarter.

Fourth quarter
After going up 42-37 on Wade’s free throws early in the fourth quarter, the Hilltoppers saw their lead disappear by the 4:20 mark. Two and a half minutes later Mount Pulaski was yet to score while the Panthers added to their lead. Delavan had put together a 10-0 run and Mount Pulaski was unable to recover. After sinking two free throws, the Panthers held a 49-43 lead with 1:37 left in the game.

However, Reed Martin did his best in the paint to keep his team’s hopes alive, tossing in two quick baskets for Mount Pulaski. His first bucket came after a steal by the Hilltoppers and his second one was off an offensive rebound. With 27.7 seconds left and the score 51-48, Mount Pulaski was still very much in it. In fact, Martin would steal the ball from Delavan before they reached half court and fire a quick pass to Austin Kretzinger in the lane for two points. This made the score 53-50. Missed free throws and made free throws down the stretch would come back to haunt the Hilltoppers. With 6.5 seconds left the Panthers sank two foul shots to seal the 55-50 win.

Delavan made ten free throws in the fourth quarter. The Hilltoppers were 4-for-8 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Mount Pulaski also missed seven free throws in the game, going 11-for-18 as a team.

Mount Pulaski’s record is 10-8 overall.
