Mt. Pulaski Fall Festival - BMX
Big Air Show
[September 15, 2025]
On the weekend of September
13th and 14th, the city of Mt. Pulaski hosted their annual Fall
Festival on the Square. That Saturday was the biggest day of the
festival, with the most events being planned for that day. The heat
of the day was overbearing, with it getting up to 93 degrees
Fahrenheit with the sun prominently in the sky.
As the evening began, so did the BMX Big Air show. By the time the
show began, the sun was no longer directly overhead, cooling things
off a bit. Also, there was plenty of shade on Washington Street,
where the show was held.

Before the show started, the Mt
Pulaski Junior and Senior High Cheerleaders performed. It was shared
that this is the first year all of them are Hilltoppers, all wearing
matching purple and gold. The girls performed several well
choreographed cheers before the attention turned to the BMX
performers.

The two performers present were
Andrew Hammann and Juan Fernandez. Hammann shared that he has been
practicing BMX for 15 years, but started small to get where he is
today. He also shared that Fernandez, who is from Colombia, has
performed for NFL halftime shows before.

The pair started the show by having
Hammann jump over Fernandez. There was a tall wooden ramp set up in
the middle of the street with an inflatable ramp on the other side
for whomever jumped off the ramp to land on safely. Fernandez stood
on the tall end of the inflatable ramp while Hammann jumped over
him. At first, Fernandez was sitting, but by the final jump, he was
standing and Hammann still managed to jump over him.

Their show was very interactive,
with Fernandez calling up volunteers in a couple of instances. He
called up four kids and had them help him design a trick for Hammann
to perform. Later, he had three volunteers and himself lay on the
ground while Hammann jumped over them.

The pair performed several tricks,
with the final one requiring one more volunteer. They managed to get
Chief Tony West to sit at the top of the ramp in the same way
Fernandez did at the start of the show. Hammann then jumped over
him.
