Bridge projects near Union to
begin August 25
[August 20, 2025]
Beginning August 25th,
construction will begin on 2 box culverts northeast of Lincoln. The
projects are located on 2400th Street and on 2250 Boulevard
approximately two miles southeast of Union and 4 miles west of
Atlanta. Both roads will be closed to traffic during construction,
which will last until late October.
The existing structures are in poor condition. One was constructed
in 1960 and pilings under the abutments are rotting. The other
structure is a box culvert with no known construction history. Much
of the concrete has deteriorated and the reinforcement bars are
rusting. Both structures will be completely removed and replaced
with concrete box culverts.
The project was awarded to Stark Excavating, Inc. located in
Bloomington, Illinois. The low bid on the project was $569,851.
State bridge funds will be used for 80% of the cost. Logan County
and Eminence Township will use local property tax funds to split the
remaining 20% local share. By replacing two structures in a single
contract, we are able to improve construction efficiency and get
better pricing.
