Delavan Optimist Club sponsors a year long celebration of the Nation’s 250th anniversary

[June 22, 2026]  The Delavan Optimist Club is proud to announce a year-long celebration in 2026 honoring the 250th birthday of our nation. As part of this historic milestone, the club is leading an exciting community initiative to showcase patriotism throughout Delavan by displaying more than 250 sponsored American flags. Many of these flags will pay tribute to local veterans and loved ones.

These flags will be displayed on several key holidays throughout the year, including Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July Week, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

The project will officially kick off with a special event ahead of Independence Day on Tuesday, June 30, at Veterans Park in Delavan. The celebration begins at 6:00 p.m. and will feature a patriotic concert performed by the 35-member Pekin Park Band and the Delavan Community Choir, both under the direction of Delavan resident and Optimist member Steve Skinner. State, county, and municipal elected officials are expected to attend and take part in the evening’s festivities.
