Emden Homecoming Parade announces
grand marshals
[July 03, 2026]
It is our honor to announce
that the Emden American Legion Post 506 and Auxiliary Unit 506 have
been selected as the Grand Marshals for this year’s parade!
Emden American Legion Post 506 was chartered in 1922, shortly after
WWI. It remains an active post today at 104 years old. The American
Legion's mission is For God and Country; we associate ourselves
together for the following purposes. To uphold and defend the
Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and
order. To foster and perpetuate a 100% Americanism. To preserve our
memories and incidents in our associations in all wars. To inculcate
a sense of individual obligations to the community, state, and
nation. To combat the autocracy of the classes and masses, make
right the master of might, to promote peace and goodwill on earth.
To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice,
freedom, and democracy. To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship
by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
Legion Post 506 supplies medical equipment such as crutches,
walkers, hospital beds, and wheelchairs to community members in
need. The post honors their fallen with Color Guard and Honor Guard
ceremonies, has a Memorial Day Service each year, and gives out
scholarships to a graduating senior(s). The post hosts the annual
Emden Homecoming event each year, which is in its 79th year and is
currently carried out by the Sons of the American Legion Squadron
506. The Post home is in the historical Emden Community House.
Emden American Legion Auxiliary
Unit 506 was also chartered in 1922 and has been part of the
community for 104 years. The American Legion Auxiliary seeks to
safeguard the principles of Justice, Freedom, and Democracy. The
unit contributes to the aim and purposes of the American Legion
Post. They financially support veterans, especially those in VA
hospitals, and collect needed supplies and personal items for
veterans served by VA clinics, primarily in Bloomington and Peoria.

They also support education
throughout the community by sending high school girls to Illini
Girls State to learn about government, sponsoring an Americanism
essay contest, offering a scholarship for those entering the
nursing profession, and honoring educators during American
Education Week. Their poppy poster contest promotes poppies for
Memorial Day. They also support the Emden Park District. When
called upon, the Auxiliary assists other community groups.
As America celebrates 250 years, we
thank you for your years of service, patriotism, and the many ways
you continue to give back to Emden. We are proud to recognize you
and celebrate all you do for our community.
The parade is on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The parade
marches past the Emden Grade School and ends at Whistle Stop Park.
