Celebrating 56 years of 4-H
leadership: Congratulations, Georgia Green!
[October 21, 2026]
After 56 years of leading the
Atlanta Town & Country 4-H Club, Georgia Green is retiring from her
role as club leader, marking the end of a special chapter in local
4-H history as the club has now disbanded.
The club began in the 1960s when Walter Rankin started it with a
focus on large animal projects. Georgia became a leader when her
daughter, Becky, was just 10 days old. Today, her daughter is 56.
Georgia has spent more than five decades helping young people learn,
grow, and discover new opportunities through 4-H.
Over the years there have been significant achievements including
five club members reaching Club Congress, one of the highest
achievements in 4-H: Noah Litherland, Edward Jowlowski, Wes Green,
Shawn Green, and Rebecca Green Hembrough.
Another memorable 4-H moment to Georgia is when Becky Green
Hembrough was just 16, she traveled to Japan through the 4-H Youth
Exchange program. Her Japanese exchange sister later spent a month
with the Green family, and the two families remain friends today!

Georgia took on the role as leader
because she has always been passionate for 4-H, especially livestock
projects. Between 1955-1959 she was a 4-H member herself showing
Black Angus cattle at the Logan County Fair.
For years, she hosted monthly club meetings in her rural Atlanta
home. In 2015, Central Illinois Ag built its training room and
provided the club with a dedicated meeting space.
As Georgia and the Atlanta Town &
Country 4-H Club close this chapter, they are expressing their
gratitude to Central Illinois Ag for its years of support and for
providing a place for members to gather.

To show their appreciation, Georgia
and the Atlanta Town & Country 4-H Club presented Central Illinois
Ag with an American flag and a commemorative plaque.
Congratulations to Georgia Green on
56 years of dedication to 4-H! Her commitment has made a lasting
impact on generations of local youth.
Thank you to Georgia, the Atlanta Town & Country 4-H Club, and Logan
County 4-H for all they have done to support young people and
agriculture in our community.
