Hounds on the Hunt hosted by Humane Society of Logan County

[March 31, 2026]  On Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Humane Society of Logan County hosted its second annual Hounds on the Hunt at Central Bark Dog Park. The event was free to the public and sponsored by several local businesses.

Humane Society volunteers Brenda Short and Marilyn Wheat explained how the Easter egg hunt worked. Dogs and their owners would collect five eggs scattered throughout the dog park. Once they had gathered five eggs, their human counterparts could exchange them for prizes such as toys, treats, and bandanas. Fourteen members of the National Honor Society at Olympia High School assisted with awarding prizes and serving Pup Cups. They also ran the popular Pup Cup Station.

Short and Wheat also noted that several dogs in attendance had been adopted from the Humane Society, while several other HSLC volunteers helped ensure everyone enjoyed the hunt, even bringing their own dogs.

Dog trainer Danielle Dehart was also on hand to answer owners’ questions. At the shelter, she works with dogs on their initial training and developed the idea for the agility course at this year’s event. The course itself was even decorated for Easter, with eggs scattered throughout and carrots popping up from the ground.

When the dogs weren’t testing their skills on the agility course or indulging in a pup cup, they enjoyed running free and playing in the park's main area. Meanwhile, an Easter-themed photo setup—with a bench, spring backdrop, flowers, balloons, and bunnies—provided owners a chance to snap holiday photos with their pups.

Several dogs and a few owners participated in the costume contest, with costumes ranging from Easter bunnies to Cookie Monster. Some dogs wore dresses and tutus. The contest featured three categories: Owner/Dog Costume Duo, Cutest Costume, and Most Creative Costume, and was judged by Seth Goodman, Tammi Purcell, and Kathie Williams. Jack won Owner/Dog Costume Duo, Lola took Cutest Costume, and Benny earned Most Creative Costume. Each winner received a trophy and bragging or barking rights.
