Hartsburg hydrant spruce up

Community members in Hartsburg came
together on Saturday, September 12, to spruce up the fire hydrants
around town. Village Board members, along with several community
volunteers, met at the Hartsburg firehouse and mapped out a plan to
paint the town’s fire hydrants, giving them a fresh look and making
them more visible.
The color is even more fitting, as
they painted them with a HartEm Stags orange. Mayor Darien
Ritterbush said Hartsburg fire chief, Chris Bowling, prepared each
fire hydrant for the fresh coat of paint. He also prepared the paint
and supplies for the volunteers at the firehouse.
The crew of approximately 15 set
out at 8 a.m. with their paint cans and brushes. Even children were
learning about community service, as several were seen painting with
their parents. Ritterbush said Orvil Township donated the money for
the paint and supplies for this project. He was very proud of the
community's support.
He added that Hartsburg has also
received an AARP grant to fund a new crosswalk and stop bar in front
of the high school. He hopes this will help address the speeding
concerns the community faces on Front Street by “increasing driver
awareness and making the area around the school safer.”

Just north of the
high school, the community park is also seeing several upgrades.
Earlier this summer, concrete was poured for a pickleball court.
Ritterbush explained that it has been painted and is awaiting
sealant and a shade structure. Once it's sealed, a net will be
set up, donated in memory of Jon and Mary Lou Wibben.
