Logan County to celebrate
America's 250th with Civil War-era music and living history at
Latham Park
[September 17, 2026]
LINCOLN, Ill. - Logan County
residents are invited to step back in time and celebrate America's
250th anniversary with an afternoon of music, history and community
in downtown Lincoln.
The Logan County Board will present a special America 250
celebration on Sunday, September 27 at 3 p.m. at Latham Park,
featuring a performance by the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band
and special appearances by President Abraham Lincoln and members of
the Springfield Soldiers Aid Society.
The 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band recreates the music and
atmosphere of the Civil War era, performing on period-style
instruments and sharing the musical traditions that would have been
familiar to soldiers and communities during Abraham Lincoln's
lifetime.
Members of the Springfield Soldiers Aid Society will add to the
living-history experience, portraying the women who supported Civil
War soldiers from the home front by gathering food, clothing,
medical supplies and other necessities for troops and military
hospitals.
The event is part of Logan County's recognition of America 250, the
nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of
the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
"Logan County has such a unique connection to Abraham Lincoln and to
the history of our state and nation, so it feels especially fitting
that we celebrate America's 250th anniversary by bringing some of
that history to life right here in our community," says newly
appointed Logan County Board Chairman Lance Conahan. "We hope
families and residents from across Logan County will join us for an
afternoon that is both fun and meaningful."
