Lincoln Memorial Hospital earns five-star CMS rating for patient experience

[September 03, 2026]  LINCOLN – Lincoln Memorial Hospital (LMH) has earned a five-star patient survey rating for Overall Satisfaction from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest possible rating in the overall hospital rating measure.

CMS, a federal agency, rates hospitals on a scale of one to five stars in a wide range of areas. LMH’s five-star patient recommendation rating reflects feedback from CMS patient surveys, which indicated that patients were highly likely to recommend LMH to others.

"Only a select few hospitals in Illinois earn this distinction, which reflects the great care and exceptional patient experience our colleagues at LMH provide every day," said Tamar Kutz, president and CEO of LMH.

The recognition reflects patients' experiences during hospital stays as captured through the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS, survey. The survey results were made public on Aug. 13 and reflect patient responses collected between Oct. 1, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2025.

Only 250 hospitals nationwide – and only seven in Illinois -- earned a five-star patient survey rating in CMS' latest release of patient experience data.

Among other hospitals statewide to receive five CMS stars for patient recommendation is Taylorville Memorial Hospital, which, like LMH, is part of Springfield-based Memorial Health.
