Mindful Miles Walking Challenge
logs more than 175,000 miles across five communities

SPRINGFIELD – The Memorial
Health Mindful Miles Walking Challenge brought together nearly 1,800
participants from Decatur, Jacksonville, Lincoln, Springfield and
Taylorville, who collectively logged 175,317.8 miles in support of
healthy habits and mental well-being.
Held across all five Memorial Health hospitals, the month-long
challenge in May encouraged participants to get moving while
building awareness around the connection between activity and
physical and mental health.
Together, walkers logged the equivalent of 6,692 marathons, seven
laps around the Earth, 25.8 laps around the moon and 31,884 climbs
up Mount Everest.
“This challenge was a fun and meaningful way for our communities to
focus on both physical and emotional wellness,” said Angela
Stoltzenburg, director of community health at Memorial. “We’re proud
of everyone who participated and literally took steps to support
their health.”
Lincoln and its surrounding communities logged the highest total,
with 50,247.8 miles, followed by Springfield with 47,914.1 miles,
Decatur with 31,540.6 miles, Taylorville with 30,571 miles and
Jacksonville with 15,044.3 miles.
Top individual walkers across the regional challenge included:
Christina Landin of Decatur: 660 miles
Tristan Heyen of Lincoln: 551.3 miles
Kristen Manak of Lincoln: 480.9 miles

“We are grateful
to everyone who helped make Mindful Miles a success,” said
Stoltzenburg. “The turnout shows how powerful it can be when
communities come together around wellness.”
The Mindful Miles Walking Challenge is part of Memorial Health’s
ongoing commitment to supporting healthier communities through
education, prevention and wellness-focused programs.
