Olympia High School presents A Night with the Groovy 70’s

[September 17, 2026]  Olympia High School presents A Night with the Groovy 70’s on September 24 and 25 at 6:30 PM and Sunday, September 27 at 2:00 PM.

The evening will include two shows: the first is Eden Prairie: 1971 by Mat Smart and the second is Midsummerish, adapted by Danielle Welch.

Eden Prairie:1971 tells the story of Pete Walcott (played by Leo Durheim), a draft dodger, who returns home to Eden Prairie, Minnesota, to review the past and see his classmate Rachel Thompson (played by Bella Galanos). They reminisce on the evening after the Apollo moon mission and confront the pain of the Vietnam War. Rachel’s mother, Mrs. Thompson (played by Campbell Rummel), also plays a pivotal role in the discovery of the pain of war on the fabric of American society in the early 1970’s.

Midsummerish is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Four young people in love and a group of amateur actors flee into a disco club. Inside the club, a mischievous fairy named Puck uses a magic potion that causes chaos by mixing up everyone's romantic feelings and turning an actor named Bottom into a donkey. Once the fairy king fixes these mistakes, the confused humans wake up, the magic is lifted, and everyone returns to normal.
