Logan County Parks Coalition invites community to smash, splash, and compost their pumpkins this November

[October 15, 2025]  Logan County, IL — This November, keep your pumpkins out of the landfill and put them to good use! The Logan County Parks Coalition is thrilled to host its third-annual Pumpkin Smash & Splash — a fun, family-friendly event that turns your leftover fall décor into compost that helps local gardens grow.

Bring your pumpkins to the Lincoln Community Garden Project on Saturday, November 15, from 9 a.m. to noon for the Pumpkin Smash. Tools will be provided so you can safely smash your pumpkins — all of which will be composted to enrich local soil.

Then, keep the fun rolling at Kickapoo Creek Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Pumpkin Splash, where you can drop your pumpkins off the suspension bridge and watch them make a satisfying splash below!

If you’re unable to attend on November 15, you can still participate by dropping off your pumpkins at designated locations throughout Lincoln between November 1–14, 2025:
