2026 Up in Smoke on the Square Backyard BBQ competition

[September 01, 2026]  With 20 teams, this year’s Up in Smoke on the Square Backyard BBQ competition brought out fewer than usual, though it was just as competitive with friendly rivalry. As usual, teams travelled from near and far representing several states.

Among many teams that had competed here previously was a team competing for the first time ever.

Go Blue BBQ, made up of teammates Myron Neisler and Jordan Ridge, said they use a special blend of spices and make their barbeque sauce from scratch. They cook the meats low and slow.

After the meats are turned in, judges score them based on appearance, texture and taste.
When it came time for the awards ceremony, Kevin Bateman thanked the sponsors and all who make the event possible.

The top seven teams in each category were then announced with each of these teams winning ribbons and small cash prizes.
