300 volunteers arriving next week
to complete free home repairs in Lincoln and Logan County
[June 19, 2026]
Lincoln, IL — Next week,
approximately 300 youth and adult volunteers will arrive in Lincoln
and Logan County to provide free home repairs on 45 homes as part of
Workcamp for Lincoln, a community-wide service project coordinated
locally by CAPCIL (Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois)
in partnership with Group Mission Trips.
For one week, volunteers from across the country will dedicate their
time and energy to helping local homeowners’ complete critical
repairs they may not otherwise be able to afford.
“These really are remarkable young people,” said Tim Gilmour,
President of Group Mission Trips. “Each one is actually paying for
the privilege of working in your community. Workcamp registration
fees are used to help cover costs for food, insurance, and building
materials.”
Group Mission Trips is a non-profit volunteer home-repair
organization headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado. Each summer,
more than 10,000 youth and adults participate in service-focused
Workcamps in communities across the United States.
Projects completed during Workcamp typically include interior and
exterior painting, weatherization, porch and wheelchair ramp
construction, and other general home improvements designed to
improve safety, accessibility, and quality of life for homeowners.
This service to the community would not be possible without the
generous support of local sponsors and donors. CAPCIL would like to
extend sincere appreciation to:
Open Arms Lincoln, The Woods Foundation, Eminence Christian Church,
Jeff Street Church, LMH Foundation, Logan County Board, Red Oak
Financial, Trinity Episcopal Church, City of Lincoln, Bryan Clark
State Farm, Heartland Bank & Trust, Lincoln Christian Church, Wahab
Family, Sal Pollice Edward Jones, Full Gospel Church, Lincoln Bible
Fellowship, Chamblin Foundation, and Midwest Technical Institute.

Many additional
local businesses are supporting this project by providing
discounts on food, equipment, and services.
Beyond the home repairs, Workcamp also brings a meaningful
economic impact to the area. Many volunteers will visit local
restaurants, shops, and businesses during their stay.
CAPCIL encourages community members to help make these
volunteers feel welcome during their time in Lincoln and Logan
County. Many volunteers can be identified by their nationally
recognized red Group Mission shirts or the locally recognized
green shirts worn by project leaders and support staff.
Workcamp for Lincoln represents more than home repairs—it is an
opportunity to strengthen community connections, support
vulnerable residents, and demonstrate the power of service.
Over the course of just one week, these volunteers will help
transform not only homes, but lives.
