Lincoln Daily News
welcomes letters of appreciation, information and
opinion on matters pertaining to the community.
Controversial issues:
As a
community we need to be able to talk openly about
matters that affect the quality of our lives. The
most effective and least offensive manner to get
your point across is to stick to the issue
and refrain from commenting on another person's
opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the
issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

I was inspired to write this letter on
what 250th birthday of America means to me by the story of Benjamin
Franklin, who sent letters to the editor of his local news paper at
a young age as well. He wrote under a pen name Silence Dogood.
Today, I can write to my newspaper freely, as a young girl, under my
own name. Freedom is something that all of us here in America get to
enjoy but not all people in the world have the same privilege.
America was founded by people that came here from all over the world
in search of freedom, better opportunities and better laws. Those
people were probably scared but also brave, adventurous and in early
days went to battle for their freedom.

I am a first generation American on my
mom’s side of my family. I am proud of my cultural heritage and I
hope to live up to the courage and wisdom of our founding fathers.
Happy 250th Birthday America!
